All the interns took a field day to Lackland Air Force Base for a Basic Training Graduation.

A Night on Padre Island
We went camping in Corpus Christi (Padre Island) for a ward Elders' Quorum activity. Colton and I slept the night on our air mattress out under the stars.

We took a morning walk along the beach as we enjoyed the sunrise.
It was absolutely beautiful!
The pictures really don't do it justice.
We found a Portuguese Man of War jelly fish washed up on the beach.
They are really neat looking, but you wouldn't really want to tangle with one. We were glad we met this one on the beach instead of in the water.
We also got to see the release of 30+ newly hatched Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. This is a pretty rare species of sea turtle, so they remove the eggs after they are laid and then supervise their release when they hatch. The people with poles and streamers kept the seagulls from getting the babies before they could get into the ocean.
They had it roped off so observers couldn't get very close, if you look very closely, you can see several little dark spots near the water like that are in fact baby turtles waiting to be swept away by the next big wave.
No beach trip is complete without making a sand castle.
Colton taught me this cool way to make a castle by dripping really wet sand on layer by layer. It's called a "Drizzle Castle".

Last Adventures at Sea World

I just went on that thing and I don't know what I was thinking! The only reason I actually went through with it was because there was no line and I didn't have time to actually think it through before I got on!
This is the Great White Shark roller coaster.
I didn't ride it, but I took pictures while Colton went zooming around the loop-the-loops and cork screws.
Dinner is served! Yum!

Another baby sea lion zonked out on the rocks. We also got to feed the sea lions and seals just before they closed up for the night.

After watching the girls, the guys were eager to give it a whack, but it wasn't as easy as it looked... Colton giving it a go.

The Internship went out with a bang--they threw a Marty Gras party before all the interns were fired and escorted off the compass!

The sunrise looks beautiful! What a fun experience. We called them "dribble castles" when we were growing up.
ReplyDeleteThe beach is really pretty down there, as long as you don't mind murky water! We went swimming down the a couple times. Once when the seaweed was really bad. It kept touching Andy's leg and freaking him out. :0)

Aren't there signs that say something about not going on roller coasters if you have a heart condition?
