Journey to Texas

Best Friend's Wedding--April 12, 2014

We attended the sealing of our good friends Eric and Barbara at the Idaho Falls Temple. A niece asked Barbara why she got married. Barbara is telling her it's because "she just really loves that guy Eric." :)

We also attended their reception in Blackfoot, Idaho, later that evening. This is the happy couple and their parents.

We spent the rest of that weekend packing and cleaning.

Since most of our utensils and other stuff was packed, we had to get kind of creative...

And we were back to eating off the floor.

Let the Journey Begin--April 14, 2014

One last look at all our stuff before closing up and heading for Texas.

And last but not least, loading Nimbus. Then we were on our way out of Rexburg by 9:30 am. We stopped in Layton for a couple of hours for one last visit with Ma n' Pa Potter. Then we headed down to Levan before stopping for the night.

Mommy K was worried that we wouldn't get to color eggs this year, so they had a little Easter party all ready for us when we arrived that evening. Malea is putting glue on to make sparkly green hearts on her egg.

And We're Off--April 15, 2014

We got up early enough to see the sunrise in Levan and headed down the road about the same time Mommy K left for her morning bus run.

We stopped in Salina to fuel up and clean the bug guts off the windshield so we could see. Then we drove, and drove until we reached Albuquerque, New Mexico, before stopping for the night.

Along the way, we made a quick stop at Hole N' The Rock. Apparently, there is a house build into the rock that has about 5000 sq. ft. We didn't take a tour through the actual house, but we looked at all the cool stuff they had outside.

Namely, the scrap metal/old license plate jeep.

We though Daddy K and Jake would really appreciate this bad boy.

Close-up on the tires. It's like a built in "I Spy..."

Colton thinks he might need one of these too. :)

This one is for Scott... Made completely from golf clubs.

Notice that his face and body are made of the club part, and his legs and arms are made of the stick part.

"That's a lot of bull!"

This guy was also made out of various bits of scrap metal and we though our welders would appreciate him too.

At our hotel in Albuquerque, we wanted to get the name of their decorator. We just had to know who would put wild peacock print with garden rose lattice print??? Yikes!

On the Road Again--April 16, 2014

Since New Mexico is famous for long stretches of straight roads through a whole lot of nothing, Malea decided to take a turn driving and give Colton a break for a couple of hours.

We decided to take the route through Roswell, New Mexico.

Since we were in the area, we though we would stop at the UFO Museum that Roswell is known for.

"Greetings Earthlings."

The museum had all things alien-related. This was an art piece depicting an alien landing.

They had photographic evidence of "alien ship sightings." (Or were those just Photoshopped???)

They had pictures and stories of crop circles. Who knows if those are real...? ;)

Close-up of an intricate crop circle.

This was a replica of an ancient carving that depicts and alien encounter or some kind.

This horse was a collage of news clippings of articles dealing with extraterrestrial activity. They even had testimonials recorded by people (civilian and military) who said they saw the crash site and saw "little people with big heads inside."

They even had a wall dedicated to those who think it was all just a conspiracy or government cover-up.

There were even some who thought the alien ship that supposedly crashed in Roswell in the 1950s was a Nazi Foo-Fighter.

This display plays eery music with flashing lights and smoke every 20 minutes.

The best part was watching and listening to all the Europeans who had their tinfoil hats on to keep the aliens from reading their minds--or was it to help them better communicate with the mother ship??? Not quite sure on that one...

However, you can't come to Roswell and not get at least one picture with the aliens.

They were also set up for some kind of show, but they never did it while we were there.

These were the preservation containers.

This is a replica of the alien autopsy room.

They also had some humorous bits.

Alien gourd.

And even alien trolls.

And yes, we were parked in four parking spaces the whole time! It's called a cushion of protection... ;)

This was a nice little pond with a trail around it that we saw on our way out of Roswell.

It was only a couple hours before we crossed into Texas.

The road we were on went through fields or very red dirt, many of which were planted with cotton.

We also went on a stretch of road through hundreds and hundreds of huge windmills.

The sun was beginning to set before we made it to Junction, Texas, to stop for the night.

Last Leg--April 17, 2014

We stayed the night in a nice little motel with Western themes.

It had a nice little garden area.

And a Texas-shaped picnic table.

And for breakfast, we had Texas-shaped waffles!

Yeah buddy!
Then we got on the road and arrived in San Antonio by that afternoon and got checked into our apartment.
